COIN HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ships individually in protective packaging
  • Consisting of 1 oz of 9999 Fine Silver
  • Obverse: Features an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
  • Reverse: Features a Peregrine Falcon in flight as it is about to strike

The first of four coins in the new and innovative biannual "Birds of Prey" series, the Peregrine Falcon swoops in and makes a striking entrance for the series with its grace and poise. The reverse of this coin features a design by Canadian artist Emily Damstra of a Peregrine Falcon or Falcon peregrinus in flight as it is about to strike.

The Peregrine is roughly the size of a crow with long compact feathers and pointed wings that allow it to reach speeds of more than 200 mph (322kph), making it the fastest animal in the world. The female peregrine, who is larger than here male partner, lays her eggs in a shallow niche that she often scratches out of the side of a mountain. The nestlings will spend the first 35 to 45 days of their life and begin hunting there. At six weeks the nestlings take to the sky and snatch food directly out of their parents talons, until they are finally ready to to leave the nest. This dynamic and revered predator makes a perfect beginning to this aggressive series.

The obverse features the Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II 5 Dollars 2014"
