Product details

The legendary Liberty eagle holds a special place in American history. Since their coinage in 1839, the Gold liberty eagle was used to run the engine of the industries as entrepreneurs, nationwide, used it to facilitate transactions. Although approximately 217,800 were minted, only a fraction of these coins were circulated. This is due to the face that it was replaced by the St. Gaudens Double Eagle shortly after, in 1907. Most of the coins that were not put into circulation were melted down for their gold content, following the cessation of the Gold Standard in 1933. The Liberty Head Double Eagle was produced in three denominations, the ten-dollar piece being the highest, the $5 half-eagle, and the $2.5 quarter-eagle. The coin that you will receive has been critiqued as a Mint State, MS-61 designation by PCGS, or NGC. Your coin will have minuscule imperfections, almost unheard of for a coin that is well over one hundred years old!

Most reputable numismatic grading institutions use the internationally recognized Sheldon grading scale, which ranges from 1 to 70 to grade coin conditions. The MS-61 (which stands for Mint State with a 61 grade) is the one highest scores a coin may achieve. it’s alternatively referred to as Uncirculated.

COIN HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ships individually in a protective coin slab
  • Consisting of 0.1209 oz of 900 Fine Gold
  • Obverse and reverse may vary slightly depending on the year of the release but maintain a very similar design

As the third modification in the coin's design, the reverse side features thirteen stars, indicative of the thirteen original American colonies. Centred, is Morgan T. Stanley's timeless design of Lady Liberty in the image of an American woman, donning a Phrygian cap with "Liberty" across. American double eagles, from 1876 onward, incorporate William Barber's slightly modified edition, with more space allowed for the coin's year of issue.

Held on the obverse side is the quintessential symbol of the United States, the Bald Eagle, with its wings splayed. Clutched in the eagle's left talon, is a bundle of arrows, while olive branches are clutched in its right talon. A shield bearing the stars and stripes is on the Eagle's chest. The coin's country of issue and denominational value all encapsulate this vivid image.

Both the United States Mint and NGC have garnered a reputation for the production of the highest quality. As a result, investors have the peace of mind that whether you are considering this coin for its numismatic or precious metal content, both of your bases will be covered. Additionally, your purchase will be received in the highest quality acrylic protective casing to preserve the near-mint-state quality. The slab also has also included a serial number for authentication purposes. Add a Random Year $2.5 Liberty Quarter Eagle MS-61 gold coin to your cart, right now!
