Product details

The Arms of Canada, reimagined—stylized, yet symbolic.

Much like 2025’s Heraldic Bear and 2026’s Heraldic Lion, this 2027 coin combines the elegance of Canadian heraldry with maximum relief, boldly reimagining familiar heraldic elements and elevating them—literally and figuratively—into a more dimensional and dramatic form.

The coin’s reverse presents a high-relief reworking of the Arms of Canada, rendered in a stylized manner to allow for a richer, more ornate composition. Certain elements of the original design have been omitted; others are artfully amplified and expanded. These guide the viewer’s eye inward, reinforcing the sculptural nature of the work, as Ultra High Relief (UHR) and Extraordinarily High Relief (EHR) work together to create a striking ascent from edge to centre.

Canadian heraldry in relief. Final coin in the series.

MADE FOR MAXIMUM RELIEF

Ultra High Relief (UHR) lifts the heraldic elements beyond conventional engraving, while Extraordinarily High Relief (EHR) creates a more dramatic ascent that culminates in the centre—fittingly, near the maple leaf positioned on the helmet above the shield.

WOODGRAIN FIELD PATTERN

Both sides of the coin feature an engraved woodgrain field pattern that is not just aesthetically pleasing, it serves as a visual connection to the natural world that has inspired many of Canada’s identifying emblems.

RENOWNED ARTIST

Your coin was designed by renowned Canadian heraldic artist Cathy Bursey-Sabourin, who redrew the Arms of Canada in 1994 to include the motto of the Order of Canada.

DID YOU KNOW?

The Coat of Arms of Canada (also called the Arms of Canada or the Royal Arms of Canada) were first adopted by proclamation of King George V in 1921, and were redrawn for official purposes in 1957. In 1994, a revised rendering drawn by Cathy Bursey-Sabourin—then Fraser Herald at the Canadian Heraldic Authority, and the heraldic artist behind this coin—introduced the motto annulus of the Order of Canada.

Backed by an engraved wood grain pattern, the reverse design by Canadian artist Cathy Bursey-Sabourin features an interpretation of the Arms of Canada, intentionally adapted to take advantage of the added dimensional depth and relief made possible by Ultra High Relief (UHR) and Extraordinarily High Relief (EHR). The lion and unicorn supporters, as well as the floral elements, have been artfully modified to fill the space and guide the viewer’s eye toward the centre, which features the shield, helmet, mantling, crest, and motto annulus (with the Order of Canada motto “DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM”, meaning “They desire a better country”). The shield contains the royal arms of the United Kingdom and France, and a sprig of three maple leaves representing all Canadians, while the motto of Canada, “A MARI USQUE AD MARE” (“From sea to sea”), is inscribed on a scroll below. The woodgrain pattern also appears on the obverse, which features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
