This beautiful coin pays homage to one of Canada's landmark structures, Craigdarroch Castle in Victoria B.C.
The castle was commissioned in 1887 by coal tycoon Robert Dunsmuir and was designed to be a grand home for one of Canada's wealthiest families of the time.
The building was not only grand in scale but also housed elaborate Victorian furnishings and numerous beautiful stained glass windows. Thirty two of the original forty seven windows remain today as a testimonial to the craftsmanship and vision of the time.
One of these windows has been reproduced on this beautifully enamelled silver coin.
Translucent enamel has been painstakingly applied by hand to the flowers and leaves.
The brilliant colours and meticulous attention to detail will make this a collector's favourite.
With the ability to transform a single ray of light into a dazzling array of colours, stained glass captivates people everywhere.
The obverse features the Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II Canada 2014 D.G. Regina 20 Dollars" and the artist's initials.
The reverse features a stunning partial reproduction of one of the stained glass windows that adorn Craigdarroch Castle in Victoria B.C. The focal point of the design is the group of six brightly coloured flowers in the centre.
Each petal and leaf have been painstakingly hand painted with blue, purple, red and green translucent enamel to recreate the effect of stained glass.
The original windows diverging brick pattern has been recreated in the engraved silver and adapted to a smaller scale to fill the reverse background.
This beautiful coin is made from one troy ounce of 9999 pure silver.
This coin is the first in what looks to be a very popular series of coins celebrating stained glass window masterpieces of Canada.
With a worldwide mintage of only 7,500 they are sure to go fast.
